Ad Astra: The New Age
A.) The Standard Die used for general Role Play is the D6
This is a 'D6'
B.) Successes are results of the upper 50% of the Die
rolled. For example, on a D6, results of 4 and 5 are Successes. Results
of 6 on a D6 are dealt with under C.) below, which deals with maximum Die
results. In some of the specialized rules, such as those for Starship Combat,
wherein dice other than D6 are used, Successes are still results of the
upper 50%. So a roll of 5, 6, and 7 would be Successes on a D8, and so
forth.
C.) Critical Successes are results of the maximum number
on the Die rolled. For example results of 6 on a D6, 8 on a D8, etc. Critical
Successes in Ad Astra are counted as two Successes. Thus, if a Player with
a skill of 3 in Utilities rolls their 3 D6s, and gets results of 4, 5 and
6, the would have gotten a total of 4
Successes, since the result of 6 counts twice.
D.) Failures are results of the lower 50% of the Die
rolled. For example, on a D6, results of 3 and 2 are Failures. Results
of 1 on a D6 are dealt with under C.) below, which deals with minimum Die
results. In some of the specialized rules, such as those for Starship Combat,
wherein dice other than D6 are used, Failures are still results of the
lower 50%. So a roll of 4, 3, and 2 would be Failures on a D8, and so forth.
E.) Critical Failures are results of the minimum number on the Die rolled. For example results of 1 on a D6, D8, D10, etc. Critical Failures in Ad Astra are counted as not only no Success, but actually take away a Success. Thus, if a Player with a skill of 3 in Utilities rolls their 3 D6s, and gets results of 4, 5 and 1, the would have gotten a total of 1 Success, since the result of 1 removed a success.
